The New Compact, Sporty Mercedes-Benz A-Class Limousine

The A-Class limousine is the latest addition to the Mercedes-Benz compact car

THE family of compact cars from Mercedes-Benz Malaysia continues to grow, and the new A-Class is the seventh model which further compliments the range of compact cars from the brand.

Available in two variants, A 200 Progressive Line and A 250 AMG Line, these two dynamic compact limousines are the latest additions to the Mercedes-Benz Malaysia product portfolio.

“A first for Mercedes-Benz, the combination of a limousine paired with the progressive, cutting-edge design of a compact car. It embodies the next step on the revolutionary journey into the digital future of the automobile world,” said Mark Raine, Vice President, Sales & Marketing, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia.

The new Mercedes-Benz A-Class Limousine priced at RM229,888 and RM267,888 (estimated) respectively, the new A-Class offers great utility.

That includes above-average shoulder, elbow and headroom plus easy access to the rear. It is at the top of its segment with regard to rear headroom (944 mm). The boot has a capacity of 420 litres and was designed for practical usability.

The boot opening is very large with a width of 950 mm and a diagonal of 462 mm between lock and lower edge of the rear window. This allows comfortable loading and unloading, even of larger luggage items.

Thanks to the frontal area of 2.19 m², smaller than that of the CLA, the new A-Class Limousine has the lowest aerodynamic drag of all production vehicles worldwide.

The new A-Class is the first Mercedes-Benz model to feature the completely new MBUX – Mercedes-Benz User Experience multimedia system, which also ushers in a new era for Mercedes me connectivity at the same time.

A unique feature of this system is its ability to learn thanks to artificial intelligence. MBUX is customisable and adapts to the user. It thus creates an emotional connection between vehicle, driver and passengers

Standard features include the MBUX infotainment system with touchscreen, and driving assistance systems of the latest generation such as Active Brake Assist and Active Lane Keeping Assist.

The KEYLESS-GO Convenience Package with HANDS-FREE ACCESS will be one of the available options, for example. The HANDS-FREE ACCESS convenience function enables hands-free and fully automatic opening of the boot lid with a kicking motion of the foot under the rear bumper.

With its puristic design emphasising surfaces, the A-Class Limousine is hot and cool at the same time, and thereby is a seamless fit with the design idiom of Sensual Purity. This includes the clear formal

The A-Class has the very latest driving assistance systems with cooperative driver support, and thus provides the highest level of active safety in this segment with functions adopted from the SClass.

New Range Rover Evoque Inspires Artists At Milan Design Week

The new Range Rover Evoque will star at Milan Design Week, with artistic creations celebrating its ethos of responsible luxury.

THE original luxury compact Range Rover sets new standards of refinement, modernity and sustainability that will be explored at a historic gallery in the Brera district and in two outdoor installations during the event, from 9-14 April.

A display at the Blindarte gallery in Brera examines the unique design and values of the iconic British compact luxury SUV – from wire form, sustainability, innovation to complete vehicle. It shows how it is possible to create a sustainable future for the automotive industry, combining design, beauty, technological innovation and high performance.

Gallery visitors will explore Evoque in three stages, starting in the Responsible Luxury Area with a look at natural and recycled fabrics. The Innovation Lab reflects Evoque’s digital
technologies and includes the chance to make virtual reality images. An immersive digital display in the Reveal Area leads to the star attraction – the vehicle itself.

Gerry McGovern, Land Rover Chief Design Officer, said: “At this year’s Milan Design Week we wanted to create that all important emotional reaction that will turn heads and make people smile.”

The exhibition also includes a celebration of the Land Rover BORN Awards for the European finalists for this year’s award and will be open to the public daily throughout Design Week (9-14 April, 10am-9pm) at the Blindarte Gallery in via Palermo, 11.

The Evoque will also be on the streets of Milan during Design Week. The SUV that lives for the city features in two installations that pay tribute to the urban world and its power to inspire designers.

The first, by design duo Giovannoni e Marcantonio, will be in Piazza XXIV Maggio, in the lively Tortona District. A goggle-eyed four-metre giraffe carries a chandelier which illuminates a gilded wire form of the new Evoque. This unusual scenario is intended to celebrate the energy of the ‘urban jungle’.

Giovannoni e Marcantonio said: “We want to invite Milan to reflect on the value of the city we love, and its spaces to be safeguarded and protected. Every inhabitant can contribute to
achieving this goal by making simple daily choices, such as preferring means of transport that minimize environmental impact.”

Fashion designer Elena Ghisellini created the second installation, in via Palermo, 11, the very heart of Brera. Rainbow strips of eco fur will cover an Evoque wire form, creating a colourful refuge to take us all back to childhood – a safe, creative space in the city.

Elena Ghisellini said: “It’s a clear message of urban freedom. I drew inspiration from the city, experiencing it as a social place capable of conveying joy and vivacity, making its inhabitants feel protected and free to express themselves.”

Land Rover is taking part in Milan Design Week for the sixth consecutive year. The new Evoque is now on sale and available to order priced from £31,600* in the UK. Specify your own vehicle at www.landrover.com

Sapura’s Shahril – Torchbearer Of The Malaysia Brand

LTS 3000

Mention the word Sapura, the general public, investors, the business circle in Malaysia and the world will automatically associate it with the oil and gas sector.

RIGHTFULLY so, as the firm Sapura Energy Berhad is one of Malaysia’s pioneering companies delving in the sector and the firm has propelled the Sapura and the Malaysian brand name to all corners of the world.

SKD-T-12-2

At the helm of the company is its President and Group Chief Executive Officer Tan Sri Shahril Shamsuddin who has toiled his heart and soul to boost the Sapura brand name to global status.

Shahril is instrumental in putting the company on the world map and in the process, Malaysia too has become a household name.

“Thanks to Shahril and Sapura, the Malaysia name is well known as it aspires to become an international brand in more than 20 countries.

President and Group Chief Executive Officer, Tan Sri Shahril Shamsuddin

Thanks to Shahril, the firm Sapura and Malaysia is now a global brand,” said an analyst at Permodalan Nasional Berhad.

Shahril, 57 is no stranger to the Malaysian oil and gas sector after Sapura was established by his father and Sapura chairman Tan Sri Shamsuddin Abdul Kadir in 1975.

Shahril’s name is well known in the circle synonymous with crude oil and his steely determination and finesse in managing the firm is an industry standard.

The grandson of a bus driver, Shahril’s meteoric rise into the pinnacle of the corporate world has no comparison and Sapura has become the template for all start-ups which want to start in the oil and gas business.

SKD-T-12-2

Today Sapura, which is named after Shahril’s late mother Puan Sri Siti Sapura Husin has a global presence visible in more than 20 countries employing more than 10,000 employees spanning over 35 nationalities.

Shahril’s resilience in building the company is admirable and is second to none except Petronas and to date the concern has bagged a total of RM17.2 billion worth of order book.

And on Bursa Malaysia, Sapura shares are consistently among the top gainers and most active constantly stirring investors interests.

Shahril’s brilliance can be seen late last year when at a time when many oil and gas firms are closing shop, he engineered Sapura’s turnaround by reducing debt, cleaned its balance sheet and raised RM8 billion via two corporate exercises combined – a cash call exercise with Permodalan Nasional Berhad and a partnership with Austria’s OMV AG.

This is no mean feat in the face of challenging crude oil prices and a gloomy outlook in the energy sector.

Shahril defied all odds and Sapura is now on its way to become a powerhouse once again in the exploration and production, engineering and construction and drilling segments.

Shahril and Sapura have partly elevated Malaysia to become a global brand name and they will continue to propel the country to greater heights for the betterment of the nation and the people.

Johor Crown Prince Confirms MB To Be Swapped, But On Sultan’s Decree

Johor Crown Prince Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim confirmed speculation that Mentri Besar Datuk Osman Sapian will be replaced but not on orders from Pakatan Harapan.

Instead, he said on Twitter said that Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar decreed months ago that a successor be found for Osman.

“However, somebody else is taking the credit and mileage, claiming that he ordered it,” he said on his official Twitter account today.

The crown prince commonly referred to as TMJ (the Malay initials for Tunku Mahkota Johor) added it was his father’s absolute prerogative to appoint the state MB.

“Enough with the politicking,” he said.

In a later tweet, Tunku Ismail expressed hope that the new Johor MB will not be a “yes man” to the federal government but a person who prioritised the welfare of the state and its residents.

Rumours spread over the weekend that Osman will be replaced amid mounting tension between Putrajaya and the Johor royal family.

The Johor crown prince last week criticised Putrajaya for wanting to ratify the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court and for announcing a ship-to-ship transfer hub in the southern state.

It was also speculated that Johor exco Dr Sahruddin Jamal was tipped to replace Osman after the former was seen meeting with Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad during the launch of their PPBM party’s Sabah chapter.

Osman’s stewardship of the state has been erratic and characterised by incidents such as sparking a diplomatic row by boarding a vessel to inspect the Johor Baru new port limits amid a maritime dispute with Singapore.

He was also criticised for his handling of the toxic waste spill in Pasir Gudang that caused thousands to seek medical attention after inhaling methane fumes and which forced the temporary closure of all 111 schools in the district. — MALAY MAIL ONLINE

Dewan Rakyat: Ternak Lembu, Kambing Di Ladang Tak Jejas Sawit
