Wetek Technology (M) Sdn Bhd (Wetek) plans to ride on its money-lending licence in Malaysia to tap the huge potential for micro-financing in Southeast Asia.
The company is looking to provide micro-financing in partnership with XOX Bhd (XOX) to entrepreneurs and small business owners in Southeast Asia in the amount of RM2 billion, reported the New Straits Times (NST) today.
Wetek already has an existing partnership in place with XOX. Last week Wetek signed an agreement with XOX to ride on the latter’s e-wallet licence, and provide micro-financing in the amount of RM1 billion to XOX’s 2.2 million subscribers in Malaysia.
In a statement, Wetek Director Howard Leung Hao said the company is expanding its micro-financing venture to become a market leader in the Southeast Asian region.
He said globally, the microfinance industry had serviced 139.9 million borrowers in 2018, and 65 per cent of microfinance borrowers live in rural areas where traditional banking and lending is difficult or impossible.

According to Microfinance Barometer 2019, this industry has been growing at an annual rate of 11.5 per cent over the past few years and projected to reach US$146.8 billion by 2021.
The NST quoted Leung Hao who said that since the announcement last week on the RM1 billion micro-financing venture, both Wetek and XOX have received a number of enquiries from existing XOX subscribers and small business owners about their micro-financing plan.
On why Wetek wants to expand in Southeast Asia, Leung Hao said the market is hugely under served in the region.
He said there are a lot of small business owners who require funding to keep their business afloat and with the Covid-19 pandemic, more and more businesses are finding it harder to obtain loans from banks.

According to the article, the two existing directors of Wetek – Leung Hao and Liang Zeng – have been providing micro-financing in China and Hong Kong for over 10 years.
They have been doing this together with their local partners in China and Hong Kong and they have been very successful.
Both Leung Hao and Liang Zeng have strong credentials and are well known in the market in China and Hong Kong.
Leung Hao is the chairman and chief executive officer (CEO) of Brilliant (Hong Kong) Holdings Ltd and Liang Zeng is an internet entrepreneur and venture capitalist.
In Malaysia, Wetek and XOX are targeting entrepreneurs and small business owners in rural and non-rural areas, who are existing customers of XOX.
Hopefully the current RM1 billion is fully taken up as both Wetek and XOX are already gearing up to launch a second tranche.
Leung Hao said in the NST article that for the micro-financing business in Southeast Asia and Malaysia, they will tap into their coffers or issue shares in the company to fund the business and expand.
Meanwhile, XOX’s subscribers is also said to be growing on a day-to-day basis and it could exceed four million by the end of this year.
The company has undertaken several initiatives and invested a huge sum to grow its subscriber base and attract new customers.

mereka untuk memasuki alam pekerjaan dengan kerjaya yang lebih baik terutamanya ketika berdepan persekitaran ekonomi global yang mencabar.
Pembiayaan yang ditawarkan melalui program itu menyasarkan seramai seratus (100) penerima faedah dengan peruntukan sebanyak RM14 juta bagi tempoh lima (5) tahun.

dengan Yayasan Universiti Teknologi Petronas (YUTP) bertujuan menyediakan biasiswa
penuh kepada pelajar yang kurang bernasib baik terutama mereka yang tergolong dalam
kumpulan B40, untuk melanjutkan pengajian asasi dan pengajian peringkat siswazah di
UTP.
Pembiayaan tersebut merangkumi yuran pengajian, elaun tempat tinggal dan sara hidup sepanjang pengajian mereka di UTP.
Pemangku Ketua Pegawai Eksekutif Yayasan Peneraju, Mohd Ariff Ithnin berkata seramai 76 pelajar dari seluruh negara termasuk Sabah dan Sarawak kini sedang mengikuti kursus
kejuruteraan dan teknologi di UTP dan kelompok pertama dijangka menamatkan pengajian
mereka pada 2021.
“Kerjasama awam-swasta seperti ini sangat penting kerana ia memberi peluang kepada
Bumiputera terutama mereka yang mempunyai pendapatan isi rumah yang kurang dari
RM4,000 untuk mendapat peluang pendidikan berkualiti di institusi pengajian tinggi.
“Kami sedar ramai pelajar di luar sana yang mempunyai potensi untuk melanjutkan
pengajian ke peringkat yang lebih tinggi, namun mereka tidak dapat berbuat demikian
disebabkan pelbagai faktor khususnya kekangan kewangan.
“Melalui pembiayaan pendidikan seperti ini, saya percaya ia memberi harapan baru kepada anak-anak muda ini untuk merubah masa depan mereka dan keluarga,” katanya.
Inisiatif ini selaras usaha kerajaan untuk melahirkan lebih ramai bakat baru untuk memacu
Malaysia ke arah negara berpendapatan tinggi serta memastikan penyertaan Bumiputera
yang lebih tinggi dalam sektor pekerjaan berpendapatan tinggi.
“Dalam persekitaran dunia masa kini yang kompleks dan tidak menentu, graduan muda perlu bersedia memanfaatkan teknologi, bersinergi antara satu sama lain dan bekerja
dengan lebih efektif dalam persekitaran digital. Mereka harus merasa lebih yakin dan
kompetitif dengan adanya kemajuan teknologi.
“Keunikan Yayasan Peneraju adalah ia tidak hanya memberi tumpuan kepada keputusan
akademik dan kemahiran teknikal. Oleh itu, sebahagian daripada pengajian akademik
mereka juga merangkumi program pembangunan yang akan memupuk para graduan ini
menjadi bakat masa depan berkualiti,” katanya.
Pendekatan itu, yang dikenali sebagai ‘Memupuk & Membangun’, adalah salah satu inisiatif

Honda Malaysia today announced that the New BR-V has recorded more than 1,400 bookings within a month since its launch.
The impressive record is attributed to the stylishness of the Bold Runabout Vehicle (BR-V), which integrates SUV design with MPV spacious interior to result in an attractive 7-Seater that can meet family’s daily needs.
Since the BR-V was first introduced in Malaysia in 2017, it has quickly become one of the most popular 7-Seaters in the market with more than 32,600 units sold.
The New BR-V received high demand from customers in the Central region, which translated to 42% of the total bookings. Of the two variants available, over 85% units of booking were for the V variant, while the E variant made up the balance of the total number of bookings.

Last month, Honda Malaysia announced the price reduction for Honda cars following the announcement of sales tax exemption by the Malaysian Government, in which the price of the New BR-V was lowered.

The exterior of the New BR-V received several upgrades comprising a New Front Grille, New Front Bumper with Lower Bumper Garnish, New Front Fog Light Garnish as well as a New 16-inch Dual-Tone Alloy Wheel Design.
It also has a refreshed rear design with a New Shark Fin Antenna and New Rear Bumper with Lower Bumper Garnish. Known as a range-topper, the New BR-V is equipped with the highest engine in its class – a 1.5L SOHC i-VTEC engine coupled with Continuous Variable Transmission (CVT) that produces 120PS of power.
To top it off, the New BR-V is fitted with Paddle Shift* that offers smoother and more exhilarating driving experience.
The Full 7-Seater Crossover also comes with the biggest trunk space at 223 litres when all
seats are up and 539 litres when the third-row seats are folded down. Multiple configurations were also incorporated in the New BR-V, which are the 60:40 One Touch Tilt & Tumble in the second row and 50:50 Tilt & Full Tumble in the third row.

Pengerusi NGO Antarabangsa, Datuk Dr Mustapha Ahmad Marican melakukan kunjungan hormat ke atas Ketua Polis Terengganu, Dato Rosle Chik di pejabatnya, baru-baru ini.
Pertemuan itu banyak membincangkan isu semasa berkaitan era selepas wabak pandemik COVID-19 dan masalah global.

Beliau berkata, turut disentuh mengenai kes jenayah khususnya fitnah siber dan jenayah rentas sempadan serta masalah PATI.
Menurut Dato Rosle Chik, setakat ini PDRM Negeri Terengganu dapat membendung perkara itu hasil kerjasama semua anggota PDRM malah Kerajaan Negeri Terengganu turut membantu selepas COVID-19 ini.
Katanya, Terengganu menjadi tumpuan pelancong tempatan kerana Terengganu mempunyai pulau-pulau yang tercantik di Malaysia seperti Pulau Redang, Pulau Perhentian, Pulau Tenggol Pulau Kapas, Pulau Bidong dan Pulau Lang Tengah.
“Justeru, aset pemodenan Polis Marin amat penting bagi tujuan rondaan bagi menjaga keselamatan para pelancong tempatan kini dan pelancong Antarabangsa pada masa akan datang apabila pintu sempadan di buka,” kata Dato Rosle.
Sementara itu Mustapha berkata, keperluan membeli aset-aset moden bagi PDRM seperti Bot polis marin, alatan moden bagi tugas rondaan PGA di sempadan dan kereta peronda baru atau pesawat udara bagi membanteras jenayah, penyeludupan dan ancaman kemasukan PATi berterusan.
“Walaupun keadaan ekonomi negara mengalami sedikit penurunan tetapi keperluan aset ini bagi menjamin keselamatan dipintu sempadan dan membanteras jenayah di dalam negara perlu diberi keutamaan.
“Ini bagi menjamin para pelancong tempatan dan asing atau para pelabur yang datang ke negara kita mereka melihat daripada segi kestabilan dan keamanan negara sebelum melabur,” katanya.
