CIMB Islamic Bank Berhad (CIMB Islamic) announced its platinum sponsorship of Faith Events’ 2024 series of Islamic educational events featuring globally renowned speakers in the Islamic society, such as Nouman Ali Khan and Dr Omar Suleiman.
The first of its series will see Sonny Bill Williams Live in Malaysia, together with Shaykh Wael Ibrahim, which will take place on the 17th and 18th of February 2024 at Menara Kembar Bank Rakyat, Kuala Lumpur. Sonny Bill Williams will be speaking across two days with both sessions titled “A Step Nearer to God” and “A Mile in My Shoes”, moderated by Shaykh Wael Ibrahim.
Ahmad Shahriman Mohd Shariff, Chief Executive Officer of CIMB Islamic said, “CIMB Islamic is pleased to partner with Faith Events, a leading Islamic educational event organiser that brings notable Islamic scholars and speakers to the Malaysian audience.
“We believe this unique platform of prominent speakers from different backgrounds and cultures will help to play an important role in fostering greater understanding and appreciation of the values that universally bridge our communities both in Malaysia and across the world.
“We hope a wide spectrum of attendees, including our customers, will gain inspiration from both Sonny Bill Williams and Shaykh Wael Ibrahim and their core values, which can be universally recognised by all, such as helping the underprivileged through philanthropic efforts.”
Sonny Bill, who hails from New Zealand, is a sporting legend with an illustrious career; a heavyweight boxer and a former professional rugby player who embraced Islam in 2009. He also became the first Muslim to play for the All Blacks.
Since his conversion, he has become a vocal advocate for the faith, cultivating a deeper and more nuanced understanding of Islam through civil discourse and Islamic philanthropic initiatives.
The event will also feature Shaykh Wael Ibrahim, an internationally acclaimed Islamic speaker from Egypt, who is a founder and chairman of Serving Islam Team, an Islamic organisation based in Hong Kong and is currently a student counsellor at the Australian Islamic College in Perth, Australia.
