MALAYSIA RECORDS OVER 1 BILLION BARRELS OF OIL EQUIVALENT OF EXPLORATION DISCOVERIES IN 2023

PETRONAS and its Petroleum Arrangement Contractors recorded 19 exploration discoveries and two exploration-appraisal successes, contributing over 1 billion barrels of oil equivalent (bboe) of new resources for Malaysia in 2023.

This achievement was the result of an intensified exploration programme pursued in the last few years, which saw the drilling of 25 wells; the highest number of exploration wells drilled in a single year since 2015.

More than half of the discoveries were made in the Sarawak Basin, primarily in two clusters within the Balingian and West Luconia geological provinces. Among the notable discoveries are Gedombak-1, Sinsing-1, Machinchang-1 and Mirdanga-1 by PETRONAS Carigali Sdn Bhd (PETRONAS Carigali), along with Babadon-1 and Chenda-1 by Thailand’s PTTEP.

Three discoveries were made in the Northwest Sabah Basin. Layang-Layang-1 by PETRONAS Carigali, as well as Hikmat-1 and Dermawan-1 by PTTEP proved a working petroleum system that unravels new opportunities in the ultra-deepwater and deepwater areas. Another drilling campaign is ongoing within the same proven basin in the shallow waters off the coast of Sabah.

Two other discoveries were made within the Malay Basin. Hibiscus Oil & Gas Malaysia found gas in Bunga Lavatera-1 well nearby the PM3 hub, and brought it onstream with a flowrate of about 50mmscf per day within the same year. PTTEP found oil and gas in Simpoh Beludu-1, having penetrated the hydrocarbon-filled reservoir in the deeper Group K sands.

PETRONAS Senior Vice President of Malaysia Petroleum Management (MPM), Mohamed Firouz Asnan said, “This significant exploration success validates our belief that there is more potential within the so-called matured Malaysia’s basins, using new 3D seismic data and the latest software technologies to better detect deeper hydrocarbon potentials.”

“We fully support our partners’ adoption of new exploration strategies which focus on near-field potential, that will enable quicker monetisation of the discoveries. This is crucial in meeting the rising energy demand not just in Malaysia but also to countries in the region.

MPM will be launching the next series of the Malaysia Bid Round early next year, offering more exploration blocks and discovered resources opportunities to potential investors. The strong support from producing states as well as the federal government has been crucial in the success of the country’s resource base growth,” he added.

Samsung Partners with Actress Emma Myers and Team Galaxy to Open Up ‘Epic Worlds’ Using Galaxy S23 Ultra

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. unveiled the complete final cut of “Epic Worlds,” a unique cinematic project filmed entirely with a Galaxy S23 Ultra, capturing the essence of
several distinct film genres and redefining the possibilities of mobile content creation.

Almost entirely crowdsourced before being edited together for today’s compilation release, “Epic Worlds” is a testament to the power of open collaboration.

At the heart of this new storytelling approach is a short centerpiece film, starring Emma Myers (known for her role in Netflix’s “Wednesday”) on a journey that transitions through the genres of film noir, science fiction, western, fantasy and action thriller.

Myers plays the protagonist, but the hero of the piece is the Galaxy S23 Ultra’s Nightography. With an unparalleled ability to capture low-light scenes, Nightography enables clarity and detail that is truly cinematic.

What’s more, this central narrative has inspired complementary content. All around the globe, local influencers from Team Galaxy shot their own scenes in reaction. These diverse pieces, all filmed with the Galaxy S23 Ultra, have been woven together with the centerpiece to create the cohesive spectacle that is the complete “Epic Worlds.”

“I am so excited that Samsung invited me to be a part of Team Galaxy. Using a smartphone to bring such an incredible short film to life was really amazing, and I totally loved the results and the entire process,” said Myers.

Prestasi Kewangan APB Berdaya Tahan Di Sebalik Turun Naik Pasaran

APB Resources Berhad (APB), fabrikasi peralatan kejuruteraan reka bentuk terkemuka, mengumumkan prestasi kewangan Kumpulan berdaya tahan di sebalik turun naik pasaran bagi suku keempat tahun kewangan 2023 (4QFY2023).

Lembaga Pengarah juga telah meluluskan perubahan tahun kewangan Syarikat dari 30 September 2023 kepada 31 Mac 2024.

Tahun kewangan berikutnya akan bermula dari 1 Oktober 2022 hingga 31 Mac 2024, meliputi tempoh 18 bulan.

Tahun kewangan berikutnya berakhir pada 31 Mac setiap tahun, memberikan masa yang mencukupi untuk Pengarah yang baru dilantik pada Jun 2023 untuk memperoleh pemahaman yang lebih baik tentang operasi perniagaan.

Dalam menghadapi keadaan pasaran yang dinamik, APB mengekalkan pendapatan kukuh pada RM18.9 juta untuk 4QFY2023.

Walaupun ini mencerminkan sedikit pelarasan sebanyak 5.1 peratus tahun ke tahun (YoY) daripada RM20 juta, ia menekankan keupayaan Kumpulan untuk mengekalkan operasi perniagaannya di tengah-tengah permintaan pasaran yang berbeza-beza.

Tempoh ini menyaksikan peralihan strategik dalam campuran produk Kumpulan, menghasilkan margin keuntungan kasar sebanyak 33.9 peratus berbanding 37.1 peratus pada 4QFY2022.

Keuntungan selepas cukai Kumpulan bagi suku tersebut ialah RM2.3 juta. Keputusan ini, walaupun sederhana berbanding RM4.8 juta pada 4QFY2022, sebahagian besarnya adalah hasil daripada pelarasan kewangan yang berhemat, termasuk pembalikan bersih kerugian rosot nilai ke atas penghutang dagangan dan ganti rugi yang dicairkan dan dipastikan dari tahun sebelumnya.

Terutama, APB mempamerkan daya tahan operasi pada asas suku ke suku (QoQ), mencapai peningkatan dalam keuntungan selepas cukai, meningkat daripada RM2 juta pada suku sebelumnya kepada RM2.3 juta pada 4QFY2023. Peningkatan ini disebabkan oleh margin keuntungan kasar yang dipertingkatkan, disokong oleh campuran produk yang lebih menguntungkan.

Pasukan pengurusan APB berkata, usaha strategik Kumpulan kini lebih penting berbanding sebelum ini.

“Dengan kemasukan Datuk Koon Poh Tat yang dialu-alukan sebagai pemegang saham yang besar pada Jun 2023, dan pelantikan ahli baharu baru-baru ini kepada Lembaga Pengarah kami, kami bersemangat dan bersedia untuk mengemudi landskap pasaran yang semakin berkembang.

“Memandangkan kami melihat peningkatan beransur-ansur dalam permintaan dalam pasaran utama kami, kami bersedia untuk memanfaatkan pengalaman luas kami dalam fabrikasi peralatan proses untuk memenuhi permintaan yang semakin meningkat ini dan memacu fasa pertumbuhan kami yang seterusnya. Perkembangan baharu dalam struktur kepimpinan kami ini mengukuhkan komitmen kami terhadap kemajuan strategik dan kecemerlangan operasi,” katanya dalam kenyataan di sini, hari ini.

APB optimis tentang masa depan terutama dalam sektor fabrikasi dengan Kumpulan berada pada kedudukan yang baik untuk memanfaatkan peluang yang muncul ini.

Sehingga 30 November 2023, harga saham APB berada pada RM2.41, dengan modal pasaran sebanyak RM272 juta.

‘Lost and Found’ Just Got an Upgrade: A Conversation With the Makers of the Galaxy SmartTag2

“Where did I put it?” It’s a thought most people can relate to after losing their belongings. Samsung Electronics is putting an end to searching and stressing with the Galaxy SmartTag2 — a mobile accessory released in October that provides a simple, convenient solution for locating items.

Just two years after the launch of its predecessors, the Galaxy SmartTag2 has returned with a design upgrade and substantial feature enhancements based on user feedback.

Samsung Newsroom sat down with Dalwon Kim and Kiyoung Kwon, Product Planners of the
Galaxy SmartTag2 at Samsung Electronics, to discuss key aspects of the product and its
improvements.

Rugged Design: IP67-Rated Usability With Metal Loop

Building off valuable user insights gathered during the launch of the Galaxy SmartTag and Galaxy SmartTag+, the Galaxy SmartTag2 was developed with a focus on the user experience to improve comfort and increase satisfaction.

The most noticeable change with the Galaxy SmartTag2 is its design — reducing the product size and thickness resulted in a more portable device. The new metal loop improves functionality and adds an air of sophistication to the product.

“After analyzing thousands of reviews of the previous iterations, we noticed some feedback about minor inconveniences that affect the user experience,” explained product planner Dalwon Kim.

“Our goal for this version was to create a design that is smaller, lighter and attachable anywhere. We also wanted to make sure the battery was not easily removable. We took outdoor activities into account and made specific improvements to enhance the product’s durability, such as adding IP67-rated water- and dust-resistant features.”

Added Convenience With Compass View and Lost Mode

Improving the features of the all-new Galaxy SmartTag2 began by asking how the company can allow users to make the most out of their Galaxy SmartTags in any environment. By harnessing the global network of Galaxy products, Samsung was able to strengthen Galaxy SmartTag’s versatility and utility through two features — Compass View and Lost Mode.

“The Galaxy SmartTag2 has evolved significantly to make it applicable in a wider variety of
scenarios,” said Kim.

The Galaxy SmartTag2 also introduces Lost Mode, 3  a new feature powered by near-field
communication (NFC) technology that will be handy in a variety of situations. If Lost Mode is activated and someone with a NFC-compatible device discovers a lost item, they can scan the Galaxy SmartTag2 — allowing them to access the owner’s contact information and any personalized messages.

Extended Battery Life: Up to 500 Days of Usage

The Galaxy SmartTag2 boasts an impressively long battery life 4  — offering approximately 500 days of continuous use or more than double that of its predecessors. When the new Power Saving Mode 5  is activated, the battery life can stretch to 700 days or more than four times that of the previous versions.

“Although Galaxy SmartTags are designed to track both locations and lost
items, most users primarily utilize them for location tracking. We introduced the Power Saving Mode to cater to this preference,” said Kim.

“One of the most common points raised in user feedback was related to battery life,” said product planner Kiyoung Kwon. “Our primary objective was to extend battery life — ensuring it could span several months or more.”

Compared to the Galaxy SmartTag+, the Galaxy SmartTag2 offers a longer battery life at a more affordable price point. “This achievement was made possible by implementing a new chipset solution and improving software mechanisms,” he emphasized.

Strong Security Features and Unauthorized Tracking Detection

The main goal of the Galaxy SmartTag2 is to assist users in locating their cherished belongings. However, it is crucial to recognize that location-tracking services can be exploited.

To prioritize user safety and privacy, the Galaxy SmartTag2 incorporates robust security features through Samsung Knox. “Galaxy SmartTag2 location data cannot be accessed without the user’s consent, and all user data is encrypted and safeguarded by Samsung Knox.

Furthermore, location data is shared only with individuals designated by the user,” explained Kim.

The Galaxy SmartTag2 can also detect unknown Galaxy SmartTags in the vicinity to alleviate concerns about unauthorized tracking. “Unknown tag alerts,” a feature within SmartThings Find, identifies any unregistered Galaxy SmartTags nearby and sends a notification to alert the user against unauthorized tracking.

“This feature offers assurance and an added layer of security,” said Kwon. “Regardless of the device, users are provided with transparency to help avoid misuse of the Galaxy SmartTag.”

“We’ve improved the product’s features with a strong focus on enabling users to conveniently locate their lost valuables from a distance,” said Kim. “I’ve heard of cases where the Galaxy SmartTag was used to catch thieves and prevent other crimes, which made me very proud as a product planner.

We will continue to do our best to create products that users can continuously
rely on wherever they go.”

“I hope that the Galaxy SmartTag2 can become an integral part of people’s lives,” said Kwon. “I want the Galaxy SmartTag to be the first solution that crosses people’s minds when they need to find their lost belongings.”

Foldables to Reach Mainstream

During the panel discussion, speakers shared their insights about the development of foldable smartphones. An interesting parallel was drawn between foldables in the smartphone industry and electric vehicles in the auto industry — both disrupted their industries with bold new concepts intended to change things for the better.

Similarly, the latest data shows that in China more than 64% of high-end smartphone users are open to make the switch to foldables, suggesting we are at the tipping point of foldable smartphones becominIn the past, some core user pain points of foldables were not yet solved – namely portability, durability, and battery life. Now, devices like the HONOR Magic V2 are as thin and lis a regular flagship smartphone, while delivering all the benefits of an immersive foldable screen.

Jati Tinggi Group Berhad (Jati Tinggi), salah satu pemain dalam bidang industri kejuruteraan utiliti infrastruktur, mensasarkan untuk meraih RM18.04 juta dari tawaran awam permulaannya yang akan datang (IPO) di Pasaran ACE Bursa Malaysia Securities Berhad (Bursa Securities).

Kumpulan menyasarkan untuk mengumpul RM18.04 juta melalui terbitan 66.80 juta saham baharu berharga RM0.27 sesaham.

Modal yang akan diperoleh akan diperuntukkan untuk menyokong pertumbuhan Kumpulan, meningkatkan kapasiti operasi dan mengukuhkan kedudukan kewangannya.

Pengarah Urusan Jati Tinggi, Datuk Seri Lim Yeong Seong berkata, syarikat berusaha untuk mencapai kecemerlangan operasi dan menerima amalan yang mampan.

Mengulas lanjut Yeong Seong berkata, RM7 juta digunakan untuk pembayaran balik pinjaman bank; RM7.34 juta akan diperuntukkan untuk tujuan modal kerja am; RM0.20 juta akan dilaburkan dalam perbelanjaan modal, khususnya dalam perolehan mesin penarik; dan RM3.50 juta diperuntukkan untuk menampung anggaran perbelanjaan yang berkaitan dengan proses penyenaraian.

UPSI Menang Pertandingan Mereka Cipta Video Pendek Kefahaman Islam

Institut Kefahaman Islam Malaysia (IKIM) menganjurkan Majlis Penyampaian Hadiah Pertandingan Mereka Cipta Video Pendek Kefahaman Islam (VIPKI) untuk Penuntut Institut Pengajian Tinggi (IPT) 2023 telah diadakan di Ballroom, Hotel Premiera Kuala Lumpur.

Majlis dirasmikan oleh Prof. Dato’ Dr. Muhammad Nur Manuty, Pengerusi IKIM dan ucapan aluan disempurnakan oleh Dr. Mohd Zaidi bin Ismail, Timbalan Ketua Pengarah IKIM.

Johan pertandingan telah dirangkul oleh Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) iaitu Nur Faisal Nordin, Joekryno Anak Joni, Nur Rahmatina Abd. Rahman dan Muhammad Ariff Muhammad Khalidi yang membawa pulang hadiah wang tunai berjumlah RM15,000.00, trofi dan sijil penyertaan.

Naib Johan adalah dari Multimedia Universiti, iaitu Syukri Azri dan Syukri Zaki yang membawa pulang hadiah wang tunai berjumlah RM10,000.00, trofi dan sijil penyertaan dan tempat ketiga jatuh pada Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) iaitu Muhammad Syakir Ahmad Sazali, Muhammad Yusry Haigal Yusof, Muhammad Haziq Agmar Amril Nurman dan Faiz Danial Faizan yang membawa pulang hadiah wang tunai berjumlah RM 5,000.00, trofi dan sijil penyertaan. Manakala bagi saguhati turut membawa pulang wang tunai sebanyak RM 1,000.00.

Pertandingan Mereka Cipta Video Pendek Kefahaman Islam (VIPKI) untuk Penuntut IPT 2023, ini telah dilancarkan pada 10 Februari 2023.  Tempoh pertandingan adalah selama lebih kurang enam bulan dan tarikh akhir untuk menghantar penyertaan adalah pada 31 Julai 2023.

IKIM menganjurkan pertandingan ini bertujuan untuk menggalakkan penghasilan video pendek kefahaman Islam bagi membina minda Islami dan menanamkan nilai-nilai murni sejagat dalam kalangan masyarakat. Pertandingan ini juga turut mendapat penajaan daripada Permodalan Nasional Berhad, Pusat Pungutan Zakat (PPZ) dan Bank Islam Malaysia Berhad (BIMB).
