First Year’s Service For Smallest Rolls‑Royce

In the Spring of 2017, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars unveiled a seminal new concept in luxury, crafted for one very special customer, St Richard’s Hospital Pediatric Day Surgery Unit in the marque’s home town of Chichester, West Sussex.

The appropriately-named Rolls-Royce SRH was hand-built to allow children awaiting surgery to drive themselves to the operating theatre, through the Pediatric Unit corridors which are lined with ‘traffic signs’. The experience of ‘self-drive to theatre’ has been proven to reduce child patient stress.

Twelve months later, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars welcomed the return of its smallest automotive family member to the Home of Rolls‑Royce at Goodwood for its first year’s service. The car has performed faultlessly, with no ‘failures to proceed’ and was given a clean bill of health by Technicians in the company’s Analysis Centre. An average of one child per day has driven to the operating theatre in the Rolls-Royce SRH.

Sue Nicholls, Pediatric Matron, St Richard’s Hospital, said, “We’ve received fantastic feedback from families who’ve expressed how excited their children have been at the prospect of coming onto the Day Surgery unit to drive our mini Rolls-Royce motor car.

Rather than being anxious about their upcoming procedure, our young patients are positively distracted by the fun experience of negotiating the corridors to theatre in a car they can drive all by themselves. We’ve also noticed that Dads especially love to admire the engineering and design specification and often ask for a turn! The whole experience of being in hospital for those children, and their loved ones, is enhanced by having the opportunity to drive such a special car.”

Andrew Ball, Head of Corporate Relations, Heritage and Philanthropy, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, said, “We are delighted that the Rolls-Royce SRH has delivered successfully on its promise – making a positive impact on children and their parents during their time in hospital.

This project showcased the world-class skills and technology that exist in the Bespoke Manufacturing Team and across every area at the Home of Rolls-Royce at Goodwood. Equally, it has clearly demonstrated that our team of highly skilled men and women are passionate about making a valuable contribution to our local community.”

KLIA Continues To Spearhead Service Improvement Initiatives

klia2 Terminal Services team during the launch of the WRMS Apps

As part of driving service excellence, Malaysia Airports is leveraging on big data analytics (BDA) and lean initiatives at KL International Airport (KLIA) as it continues its bid to become a global hub.

PASSENGERS will soon be able to enjoy the benefits of a new mobile application by Malaysia Airports that will empower them to plan their journey to KLIA more efficiently. Smart features of the mobile application include a journey planner that gives real time information on the traffic to the airport and also the queue times at the touchpoints such as the check-in counters and also a navigator that makes way finding at the airport easy and fun.

WRMS Apps

The mobile application will also enable passengers to get information on flight and baggage status, as well as connect them to our customer experience agents for live chats on specific queries about the airport.

This mobile application, said to be launched in the second half of the year is part of the bigger picture of the organisation’s digitalisation efforts for a better managed airport.

Just last week, Malaysia Airports introduced its very own Washroom Response Management System (WRMS) mobile application for the team of cleaners and supervisors that work relentlessly around the clock in up keeping the cleanliness of the washrooms at KLIA.

Passengers rate their experiences at the digital feedback panel in the washroom and the information is disseminated to both the ground operations and senior management team for immediate action to be taken.

Through the system, employees can work more efficiently and ensure that the washrooms are in tip-top condition for the benefit of passengers. Apart from being able to monitor real-time passenger feedback, the WMS also provides more effective maintenance scheduling and crowd congestion handling during peak hours all within the touch of a button.

Kerbside Signage

According to Malaysia Airports Managing Director, Datuk Badlisham Ghazali, “Our transformation into a service leader has always been part of our five-year business plan, Runway to Success 2020 (RtS2020).

“This is why we welcome MAVCOM initiative to roll out the Quality of Services (QoS) scheme as it will also contribute towards elevating our service standards at the airport.”

“Malaysia Airports will use BDA as a platform to collect and centralise data for better analytics in providing operational efficiency. The information is then processed and personalised before connecting it with various offerings via a smart mobile experience for passengers,” he continued.

Having started off the year with its quick-wins based “1 Improvement 1 Week” campaign that has seen the implementation of more than 15 new initiatives at KLIA so far, the crusade to create a greater passenger experience is heightened further through the use of digital technology and the practise of lean sigma.

Passengers travelling through the airport will see multiple improvements carried out concurrently within the year as the organization continues to strive towards being a service leader.

Badlisham said, that KLIA will take the lead among all airports in Malaysia in implementing digital-based solutions to provide a more passenger-friendly journey. He further mentioned that the digital transformation the organisation is embarking on encompasses many BDA based initiatives such as the WRMS amongst others.

He went on to remind that the recent implementation of a cashless payment system at Kuching Airport was also another BDA initiative towards realizing the future of airport retail and embracing new passenger trends such as traveling light and smart.

Malaysia Airports’ BDA journey will concentrate on five key enablers allowing the organisation to better anticipate foot traffic flows and reduce choke points and congestion at its network of airports.

These key enablers entail managing passenger and public sentiments, tracking the passenger flow from the curbside or carpark to the boarding gate, improving the retail and terminal footfall and way finding, applying mobile applications for a more seamless passenger experience and using financial analytics to improve business performance.

klia2 Terminal Services team during the launch of the WRMS Apps

Commenting on the BDA initiatives, Badlisham said, “The first phase of the digitalisation realisation in KLIA is slated for the next two years and passengers can look forward to new features and functions even before they arrive at the airport.

We believe that the airport should play a more pro-active role towards reaching out to passengers and providing information first hand, for instance, instead of passengers going through the conventional way of hunting down the information.

Travelling should be made hassle free and the best place to begin is from home itself. In this new age, passengers should be able to plan their journey and anticipate the necessary airport procedures from home.

Our new airport mobile application will support push notifications and journey based alerts so that you will arrive in the airport on time and in style. You will be able to anticipate queue times at each touchpoint, and plan your walk to the gate in a more relaxed and enjoyable manner through the wayfinding feature.

No more mad dashes to board the plan and who knows, you may even be able to fit in some time to step into our duty free outlets for a stress-free shopping spree.”

On top of the BDA initiatives, Malaysia Airports is also taking other pro-active measures on the ground by implementing the theory of Lean Sigma to enhance the experiences of more than 160,000 passengers who pass through the airport daily.

These lean initiatives will help maintain the airport infrastructure and provide a safe and secure traveling experience for passengers. Among the lean initiatives that have been carried out is the designation of pick up lanes at the kerbside of the Arrival Hall Level 3 in KLIA main terminal.

Arriving passengers can now wait at the designated areas and easily communicate on their whereabouts. Drivers can pick the passengers up easily and at the same time, minimise the traffic congestion and waiting time.

Another notable lean initiative is the digital display of security instructions for the passengers’ reference at the security check-points. Passengers who are waiting in line are advised to watch the short video that showcases the ‘Do’s and Don’ts’ during the security inspection. This lean initiative has been an effective approach in shortening the queue time and managing passengers’ expectations.

Other lean initiatives that have been recently implemented is the modification of the security railings at the waiting area of the aerotrain to enable smart crowd congestion management and promote smooth passenger flow especially during peak hours.

Badlisham also said, “The improvements we are making will significantly enhance the experience for our passengers and all our visitors to our airport, while supporting the growth in airline operations at our gateway.”

In the near future, the public will be able to see a new face uplift of KLIA when it undergoes expansion. The existing departure hall will be expanded to cater to more retail and F&B options and house additional seating and new washroom facilities. The expansion is part of the airport improvement plan that is designed to accommodate approximately 70 million passengers annually.

Volvo Trucks Introduces Its First All-Electric Truck For Commercial Use

Premiere for Volvo Trucks’ first all-electric truck – the Volvo FL Electric, taking the lead in solutions for electrified goods transport in cities.

VOLVO Trucks has introduced its first all-electric truck for commercial use – the Volvo FL Electric for urban distribution and refuse operations, among other applications.

The model, which will start sales and series production in Europe next year will see Volvo Trucks taking the lead in solutions for electrified goods transport in cities.

“We’re immensely proud to introduce the first in a range of fully electrically-powered Volvo trucks ready for regular traffic. With this model we are making it possible for cities that aim for sustainable urban development to benefit from the advantages of electrified truck transports,” says Claes Nilsson, President Volvo Trucks.

With better air quality and less noise in the city, it is possible to plan for housing and infrastructure more freely than at present. An electric truck without any exhaust emissions can be used in indoor terminals and environmental zones. Their low noise level creates opportunities for doing more work at night, thus reducing the burden on the roads during the day.

There is considerable market interest in electric trucks. Many potential customers have questions about the opportunities generated by the new technology and how it can impact their operations.

“In order to make the transition secure and smooth, we will offer holistic solutions based on each customer’s individual needs regarding driving cycles, load capacity, uptime, range and other parameters.

Such a solution may encompass everything from route analysis and battery optimisation to servicing and financing. Volvo Trucks works closely with several suppliers of charging equipment. The aim as always is to offer customers high uptime and productivity”, says Jonas Odermalm, head of product strategy Volvo FL and Volvo FE at Volvo Trucks.

Backing the Volvo Trucks offer is the Volvo Group’s accumulated expertise in electrified transport solutions. Sister company Volvo Buses has sold more than 4000 electrified buses since 2010.

The technology used for propulsion and energy storage in the Volvo FL Electric has been thoroughly tried and tested from the outset and is supported by Volvo Trucks’ far-reaching network for sales, service and parts supply.

“From experience we know how important it is that cities, energy suppliers and vehicle manufacturers cooperate in order for large-scale electrification to become a reality. With attractive incentives, agreed standards and a long-term strategy for urban planning and expansion of the charging infrastructure, the process can go much faster,” explains Jonas Odermalm.

Volvo Trucks believes that it is essential to take a holistic view of electrification of the transport sector to handle the ongoing challenges in areas such as electricity generation and batteries.

“For instance, in order to ensure that raw materials for the batteries are extracted in a responsible way, the Volvo Group works with the Drive Sustainably network, which has a special function that monitors this issue.

The Volvo Group is also involved in various projects where batteries from heavy electric vehicles get a second lease of life, reused for energy storage. All the questions about handling of batteries have not yet been solved, but we are working actively both within the Group and together with other actors to drive development and create the necessary solutions,” says Jonas Odermalm.

Commenting on the new FL Electric Truck, Mats Nilsson, Managing Director of Volvo Malaysia Sdn Bhd said, “One of our core values here at Volvo is environmental care. We want to make trucks that are not only safe and of a high quality, but also trucks that are going to ensure a greener world for future generations.

We believe that innovation does not need to come at the cost of the environment. Volvo’s FL Electric truck is a shining example of the harmony between innovation and love for the environment.”

The first trucks in the Volvo FL Electric range are now entering regular operation with customers in Gothenburg, Sweden, the home of Volvo Trucks.

The All-New Peugeot 5008 SUV Is Arrive

Nasim Sdn Bhd, the official distributor and custodian for the Peugeot brand in Malaysia, today launched the All-New Peugeot 5008 SUV, a modern automobile that gives users the attractive combination of status, sophisticated technology, impressive practicality and driving emotions.

THE All-New Peugeot 5008 SUV makes a smooth transition from its MPV predecessor and breaks new ground as a large, expressive 7-seater SUV in the C-segment. As a new contender in this competitive segment, the All-New Peugeot 5008 SUV breathes new air in this segment with its blend of space and practicality of an MPV and the dynamic appeal of an SUV – meeting expectations of today’s customers.

Speaking at the launch event, Yasser Awan, CEO of Nasim Sdn Bhd, said, “Impressive at first sight is the definitive design appeal of the All-New Peugeot 5008 SUV incorporating an agile driving experience that Peugeots are known for. The All-New 5008 truly stands out from its competitors, thanks to its versatility as an SUV and practicality of an MPV with its 7 seat configuration – combining the best of both worlds.”

Also present at the launch was Dato’ Samson Anand George, Group CEO, Automotive Group, Naza Corporation Holdings Sdn Bhd. “The All-New Peugeot 5008 SUV is engineered with the best features and on-board experience from the French marque, in a spacious and luxurious design. We are positive the arrival of the All-New 5008 SUV will be the catalyst to ensure that Nasim’s sales target of 3,600 units in 2018 is achieved,” said Dato’ Samson.

The overall size of the vehicle remains compact at 4,641mm long and 1,844mm wide, yet for a spacious C-segment vehicle, the All-New Peugeot 5008 SUV – though 11cm longer than its predecessor – is still one of the most conservatively proportioned and its extra length makes it roomier for passengers.

An expressive front-end design with the Lion brand’s marque mirrors the assertive personality of its owner and pride in the brand identity. The finesse of the vehicle’s Advanced Full LED headlamps with sequential scrolling indicators give it a piercing feline gaze whether in day or night, and its striking form is accentuated by a chrome insert on the front wings that extend to the headlights, in a nod to Peugeot’s concept car – the HX1.

At the rear, the raised body line and chromed roof arc trim finishes elegantly at the quarter panel, giving off a more aerodynamic design profile that is further complemented by Peugeot’s signature three-claw LED rear lights. An extra-wide tailgate and low boot sill also hints at just how spacious the boot is.

The suave All-New Peugeot 5008 SUV is fitted with 18-inch alloy Los Angeles wheels with two-tone diamond finish, and stainless steel roof and prominent black wheel arches lend a subtle blend of character and sophistication to the vehicle contours.

Much like its siblings the 308 and the 3008 SUV, the All-New Peugeot 5008 SUV features the new Efficient Modular Platform (EMP2) that balances between mass, strength, and functionality perfectly on all levels to yield a vehicle weighing only 1,385kg or 95 kg less than its MPV predecessor – translating to improved efficiency, fuel consumption and driving pleasure.

The interior is an invitation to take a seat and enjoy a special experience travelling in comfort, serenity, and luxury. The almost futuristic-looking Peugeot i-Cockpit® would be hard to miss – the French marque’s very own intuitive interior architecture receives an update on the All-New Peugeot 5008 SUV, which puts the driver at centre stage and offers a high-end driving experience that both surprises and delights.

It has it all: an unobtrusive and completely redesigned compact steering wheel for greater character, an 8-inch Multifunction Colour touchscreen to keep all functions at hand, and a spectacular 12.3-inch high-resolution Digital Head-Up Cluster Display that shows the speedometer, odometer, trip-computer, and others with superior graphics, elegant animations and eye-pleasing transitions from one mode to another.

Further embellishing the dashboard are central satin chrome ‘Toggle Switches’ for quick access to the main passenger comfort and safety functions: audio, air-conditioning, assistance settings, telephone, apps, and hazard warning lights. More refined, advanced and connected than before, the latest Peugeot i-Cockpit® offers more emotional satisfaction and customisation.

This on-board experience is also enhanced by interior details that greatly magnify perceived quality and the prestige of the passenger compartment. The new electric impulse gear control with paddle shift exemplifies the modern elegance of the interior through the meticulous selection of material like leather and chrome – embodying a masterful design with a warm soul.

Passenger comfort gets an upgrade as the All-New 5008 SUV is equipped with seven premium leather seats for everyone on-board and now offers five different angles of inclination on the second row, in contrast to its predecessor’s option of two. This row also features three-point ISOFIX anchor points and reconfiguration options at the passenger and loading compartments to optimise knee room.

Volume and versatility continues to be evident in the All-New 5008 SUV. The third row of two extra seats, too, can be folded down flat into the floor with the two covers of the boot floor forming a perfectly flat surface when folded down, and they can also be easily tucked away behind the third-row seats.

Peugeot engineers were inspired to take the vehicle’s clever design up a notch by making the extra seats easily removable. Their modest weight at under 11kg and a single control make them easy to extract, so users can expand boot volume when needed.

Adding further to that is a host of accessories such as sockets, boot cover, blinds, ‘aeroplane’ trays on the back of the first row seats, hooks, cup holders and 38 litres of storage space in total (distributed throughout the passenger compartment) for a much greater on-board experience.

Epitomising the luxury of space in a versatile SUV, the All-New 5008 SUV owns up to its name with its class-leading boot capacity and intelligent storage solutions. Its flat, uncluttered volume and low boot sill at 676 mm, in combination with a foldable front passenger seat, provides from 1,060 litre space in 5-seat configuration or 2,042 litres with 2nd row folded flat – allowing the All-New 5008 SUV to carry especially long loads of up to 3.20 metres.

The All-New 5008 SUV continues to surprise with a practical motorised smart hands-free tailgate that opens and closes shut effortlessly when activated – just with a simple gesture of placing your foot under the rear bumper.

Drivers can rely on a wide selection of driving assistance systems to fully appreciate the agility of the All-New 5008 SUV. Cutting-edge Advanced Driver Assistance Systems make driving even safer with an arsenal of safety features such as 6 safety airbags, Advanced Electronic Stability Program, a first-in-its-class Advanced Grip Control with 5 drive modes selection, Hill Assist Descent Control, Speed Limit Information, Driver Attention Alert and Lane Departure Warning.

Drivers at the wheel will feel more confident when travelling downhill on steep slopes with the help of Hill Assist Descent Control (HADC), which takes the vehicle safely down steep gradients of at least 5 degrees, leaving nothing to chance.

It innovates through its ability to maintain a very low descent speed of 3 km/h, preserving safety and control in the most potentially unnerving situations. Altogether, these neat features reinforce the All-New 5008 SUV’s five-star rating from EURO NCAP.

Under the hood, the All-New 5008 SUV is equipped with a 1.6 Turbo THP engine and boasts a fuel efficiency of 7.3 litres per 100 km and CO2 emissions as low as 133g/km.

Other features include Android Auto, Apple Carplay and Mirrorlink connectivity, auto electric parking brake, automatic dual zone air-conditioning, reverse camera with 3 view settings, six speakers with 3D Arkamys sound staging system, driver seat lumbar and height adjustment and flexible 8-way electric driver seat with memory settings. The ergonomic high-seating position especially gives a feeling of safety and security by increasing the visibility of the open road.

Despite only being launched at selected markets worldwide in January, the All-New Peugeot 5008 SUV has gained global recognition and swept aside the established competition in the SUV segment to win the inaugural ‘SUV of the Year’ at the 2018 CCT100 awards and ‘Best Large SUV’ at the 2018 What Car? Awards, beating stiff competition to land a spot amongst the most prestigious SUVs.

Offered in four distinctive colours Emerald Crystal, Amazonite Grey, Nera Black and pearlescent White, the All-New 5008 SUV is currently on display in showrooms nationwide. The on-the-road price without insurance is RM173,888 in Peninsular Malaysia.

Parallel with Peugeot’s distinguished standards and to provide the best ownership experience for its customers, the All-New Peugeot 5008 SUV comes with a five-year manufacturer’s warranty, together with Nasim’s existing 24-hours Peugeot Assistance service and complimentary access to ‘SkyLounge by Naza’ at Subang Skypark.
