AirAsia X Restructures To Facilitate Fresh Equity To Restart Airline – Appoints Deputy Chairman To Lead

A321neo

AirAsia X Berhad (AirAsia X) announced a restructuring plan geared at facilitating an injection of fresh equity which will allow the airline to fly again.

AirAsia X also appoints Dato’ Lim Kian Onn as the Deputy Chairman to lead the airline restructuring. He is a Chartered Accountant and was an investment banker. He has been a Board member of AirAsia X since 2012.

AirAsia X is facing severe liquidity constraints. Travel and border restrictions have grounded all scheduled flights and there is no imminent return to normalcy.

An imminent default of contractual commitments will precipitate a potential liquidation of the airline.

A major debt restructuring and a renegotiation of its financial obligations are pre-requisites for any raising of fresh equity which will be required to restart the airline.

For 13 years AirAsia X, as a market leader in medium-haul low-cost flying, has delivered affordable flights to many destinations and created jobs for the airline, related travel and tourism industries as well as contributing to Malaysia’s GDP growth.

The Board and management have assessed various options and propose a restructuring plan which if approved, will secure the airline’s continued ability to fly again. The plan includes:

A. Debt Restructuring Scheme
proposed debt settlement and waiver of debts involving unsecured creditors, aimed at enabling the Group to address its debt obligations in an orderly manner and to arrive at a debt structure that is sustainable from future operating cash flows;
B. Revision of the Group’s Business Plan
route network rationalisation, aircraft fleet right-sizing, cost base overhaul and workforce
optimisation, all aimed at ensuring a leaner and more sustainable business going forward;
C. Engagement with Business Partners
key success factors to the proposed restructuring plan include the support from business
partners to continue the long-term relationship pre- and post-restructuring. AirAsia X continues to engage all key business partners and hopes to enter into contracts, agreements and/or arrangements that are reflective and supportive of the airline’s revised business plan upon successful completion of the restructuring which is critical to the future viability of the business;
D. Airline customer and Travel Agents
under the Proposed Scheme, AirAsia Unlimited Pass holders and guests with valid flight
bookings will receive travel credits with extended validity for future travel or purchase of seat inventory.

The proposed restructuring plan and establishment of new contracts, agreements and/or arrangements based on terms to be agreed upon which are sustainable based on the Group’s revised business plan is aimed to right-size the Group’s level of operations and financial obligations, which is crucial to the Group’s continued existence in the aviation landscape.

These exercises are pre-requisite for the raising of any fresh capital, comprising both equity and debt needed to implement the Group’s revised business plan.

In the last two months the Company has had extensive discussions with all major creditors. Whilst there are varying degrees of support for the restructuring scheme as has been proposed, all of them have expressed strong support for a continuation of the airline business.

AirAsia X CEO Benyamin Ismail said, “AirAsia X and other airlines the world over are struggling to survive amidst the global crisis of COVID-19 pandemic. We remain committed to our guests, Allstars, business partners and shareholders to ensure we build a viable and sustainable airline for the long-haul, and for the survival of this airline, the proposed restructuring plan is our only option.

“It has been extremely difficult for the airline during this period as we had to ground all scheduled flights, implement salary cuts and retrenchment for the first time in the company’s history as a consequence of the pandemic.

Similar exercises are likely to continue during the restructuring process, but our focus is to ensure a successful restructuring to keep as many jobs as possible.

“We have a low cost base, we are in the right part of the market and many of our key markets are in green zones which are likely to reopen first. We have a robust recovery strategy in place, and with the continued support from our stakeholders, we will overcome all challenges and come out stronger.”

Benyamin Ismail also added, “In order to safeguard Malaysia’s vested interest through the aviation industry, regional air connectivity is essential for trade, businesses and economic growth, especially to our core markets of China, Japan, Korea and Australia where we have established a strong foothold.

The closure of these markets can impact the stimulus spending, GDP contribution and employment within the supply chain of the aviation industry. As other airlines struggle in the current market condition, AirAsia X strives to emerge stronger once the market recovers.

Our immediate focus is to obtain all necessary approvals and execute the proposed restructuring plan over the next few months.

“Under the Proposed Scheme, AirAsia X Unlimited Pass holders and guests with valid flight bookings will receive travel credits with extended validity for future travel or purchase of seat inventory. We assure you that we will resume operations as soon as possible once the border restrictions are lifted. Your steadfast support is greatly appreciated.”

AirAsia X continuously reviews its network resumption timeline and has an ongoing dialogue with tourism and airport authorities, governments and other industry stakeholders to pave the way for the prospect of travel bubbles in green zone countries.

Despite the unprecedented setback brought by COVID-19, this also provides an opportunity for AirAsia X to transform and reinvent the product and business strategy to emerge in a stronger and more sustainable financial position, capable of attracting new equity and debt funding critical to the long-term viability and continuity of AirAsia X.

Keeping Your Home Clean, Healthy, And Pollution-Free

Tackle home cleanliness and hygiene through these ways to ensure a healthy life for you and your family

Many have the misconception that pollutants can only be found along the dingiest of street and grimiest of canals, but that is as far away from the truth than you can imagine.

Unclean air and dust can enter the home through open windows and doors, and germs, viruses and bacteria can be brought into your living space by you and your household members after an entire day spent outside.

Air pollution is largely an invisible affair, so how do you fight something you cannot see? Here are some ways you can do to keep your living space clean and pollution-free.

What you bring in: Minimise bringing in pollution into your home

From the moment we step out of our homes in the morning till when we trudge back home, there are many instances for when fine particles of dust, bacteria and germs can get latched onto the fibres of our clothes.

So whether it is for hygiene purposes or to just be more comfortable in your home
surroundings, make it a habit to wash your hands and change out of your clothes as soon as you reach home, before plopping onto the couch or bed to relax.

What you walk on: Keeping floors squeaky clean

Dust, pet dander, and other allergens can accumulate quickly on your floor. Daily vacuuming is thus your first line of defence in preventing dust build-ups.

For rooms with carpets, it will require a heavier and more comprehensive vacuuming at least twice a week, as the fibres of the carpet can trap dust, dirt, allergens, and also absorb grime and spills, giving way to bacteria.

To make vacuuming less of a headache, invest in a cordless vacuum to free you up from having to search for an available socket in each room. The Samsung Jet™ is a cordless stick vacuum cleaner that makes vacuuming almost an effortless task, thanks to its Digital Inverter Motor that consistently maintains a high level of energy efficiency while sustaining an industry-leading suction power of up to 200W (1).

Besides, Samsung’s five-layer HEPA Filtration system 2 is designed to capture up to 99.999% (3) of micro dust particles, including 0.3~10μm sized particles and allergens to protect the health of its users (4).

Home owners can attest to the struggles they have when using a conventional vacuum cleaner, be it having to forcefully drag it along by its wheels to reach those hard to reach corners of the room, or lifting the equipment up a flight of stairs at times.

Furthermore, it can double up as a mop simply by clicking on its Spinning Sweeper attachment with dual pads for effective cleaning with minimal effort.

The Samsung Jet™ was designed to turn this bothersome household chore into a more convenient and efficient activity. Its handheld model weighs only 1.61kg that puts lesser strain on your wrist!

Now, you can ensure that your floors remain dust and dirt free, and spick and span all day.

What you breathe in: Maintaining good air quality within your home

With many of us spending more time indoors these days, maintaining good indoor air quality has never been more important.

Indoor gardening is a great activity to pick up – it helps to manage stress but also improves indoor air quality.

Plants like Peace Lilies can improve indoor air quality, while the giant leaves of Rubber trees
can turn more carbon dioxide into oxygen, reducing tension and making the home a cooler, calmer place to be in.

However, if gardening is not your specialty, a foolproof and quick way to purify the air would be to consider an air purifier.

Samsung Air Purifiers can capture up to 99.97% 5 of ultrafine dust and even bacteria to help combat seasonal allergens and make old air, new again (6).

The air purifiers has three distinct filters to offer a multi layered purification system that is designed to capture airborne particles, harmful gases and inhibits the spread of captured bacteria.

Even when you are outside, you can control the indoor air quality remotely with Samsung’s SmartThings app so that you have fresh indoor air when you return home.

As we find ourselves spending more time indoors, with health and hygiene taking a higher priority during this period, it pays to put more attention in ensuring that our living space is kept clean as much as possible.

Take proactive steps to reduce the risk of transmission and contamination through
steaming the clothes you wear, vacuuming the surfaces you walk on and cleaning the air you breathe, for a healthier environment for you and your loved ones.

Samsung Jet 90 premium (up to 200W) is available at RRP RM3,599, while Samsung Smart Air Purifier (60 m (2) ) is available at RRP RM1,599.

The First Luxury SUV – Aston Martin DBX Now In Malaysia, Base Price From RM818,000

Aston Martin Kuala Lumpur has officially introduced the highly anticipated DBX, the marque’s first SUV, to the Malaysian market.

The DBX is a true game-changer, presenting a new kind of Aston Martin that is founded on the principles of beauty, luxury and driving dynamics.

Built on brand new architecture and powered by the spirit of adventure, the DBX is ready to
go anywhere.

“Aston Martin has boldly ventured into unchartered territory with the addition of an SUV that has all the brand’s trademark luxuries combined with dynamic sports car capabilities.

The DBX’s striking design echoes the unmistakable style of Aston Martin’s iconic sports cars and is matched by its impressive versatility in performance. It has already sparked great interest worldwide and we’re thrilled to now offer this dynamic model in Malaysia,” said Kumara Sooriar Sivanasan, General Manager of Aston Martin Kuala Lumpur.

The culmination of an extensive development programme that began with physical testing in Wales in 2018 and virtual development stretching back to 2015, the DBX signals a new era in Aston Martin’s pursuit to deliver exceptional performance, style and usability in a segment previously unexplored by the world-famous manufacturer.

Bringing both the versatility and indulgence expected of a luxury SUV with sports car levels of dynamic performance, DBX sets a bold new standard in this sector.

The foundation of the DBX is a new dedicated SUV platform, something rarely seen across the sector, which inspires all departments within Aston Martin to innovate and push the boundaries of what British design and engineering can create, resulting in a truly remarkable product.

Utilising bonded aluminium, a construction method Aston Martin has refined through the development of its sports cars, the body structure is both very light and incredibly stiff, assisting in the delivery of an overall kerbweight of 2,245kg.

Right from its genesis, it was designed to allow maximum room in the cabin, putting a premium on refinement and class leading spaciousness for both front and rear occupants.

Meanwhile, the exceptional stiffness inherent in the design of the new platform has also
enabled DBX to achieve exceptional dynamics both on and off-road.

Pictures taken with Samsung Note20 Ultra 5G

Adaptive triple volume air suspension has been combined with the latest 48v electric anti- roll control system (eARC) and electronic adaptive dampers to provide the new SUV with a huge breadth of ability.

With its capacity to raise the ride height by 45mm or lower it by 50mm the air suspension gives any driver the confidence to tackle a wide range of terrain. While this of course provides benefits while on the move, the system can be further programmed to aid with ingress, egress and loading requirements, aiding on a practical level.

The adaptive triple chamber air springs enable variable spring stiffness, giving both luxurious comfort and dynamic prowess. Extraordinarily the eARC – capable of 1,400Nm of anti-roll force per axle – can limit DBX’s body roll for handling that is much more akin to that of a sports car than an SUV.

This sophisticated system of adaptive air suspension, dampers and eARC allows for maximum ride comfort when transporting up to five occupants and their luggage, while maintaining a highly responsive and engaging dynamic capability.

Powered by a new version of the characterful 4-litre, twin-turbocharged V8 engine found in DB11 and Vantage, DBX features an impressive output of 550PS and 700NM of torque, carefully tuned to meet the specific needs of this model.

With a sound character that is unquestionably Aston Martin, the active exhaust system ensures this is a luxury SUV that can sound refined one moment and exhilarating the next.

The engine’s versatility isn’t restricted to its vocals either; the turbocharged V8 has cylinder deactivation to enhance fuel economy, yet it can also propel DBX from 0 to 100km/h in 4.5 seconds and on to a top speed of 291km/h.

Transmitting this power and torque to the ground is a nine-speed torque convertor automatic gearbox, allied to an all-wheel drive system with active differentials featuring an active central differential and an electronic rear limited slip differential (eDiff).

This allows the torque to be moved precisely both fore and aft in the vehicle and also across the rear axle. When combined with the bespoke steering system that has been tuned to deliver feel and sports car-like response, DBX imbues the driver with an overriding sense of control, whatever the conditions.

Aston Martin’s first ever full-size 5-seat model is not only exceptionally versatile in terms of the terrain that it can tackle, it is also extremely adaptable to a wide variety of lifestyle needs and owners.

Designed to accommodate the world’s 99th percentile male and 5th percentile female, DBX has been very deliberately created with instant familiarity and ease of use from the start.

With 632 litres of boot space and 40:20:40 split folding rear seats DBX possesses all the flexible load capacity expected of an SUV with class-leading interior space. The load space offers a practical and cleanly designed space.

A narrow load sill and broad aperture maximises the practicality for a variety
of luggage, such as suitcases, golf bags and ski equipment.

Complimenting the incredibly high standard specification of DBX, which includes all available active safety systems, there are many optional accessory packages offered. These packages will tailor the car even further to customers’ needs, sports or pastimes.

For example, the Pet package will include, amongst other things, a portable washer to help attend to the needs of a muddy dog after a walk.

Alternatively, the Snow package will deliver boot warmers to make a ski trip just that little bit more pleasurable.

The luxuriously handcrafted interior of DBX has been designed to provide equal space and comfort whether sitting in the front or rear of the car.

Class-leading headroom and legroom combines with a full-length glass panoramic roof and frameless door glass to offer a fantastically light and spacious cabin environment. The use of sports car seat packaging in the front not only provides the driver with exceptional support and long-distance driving comfort, but also provides knee and footwell clearance
for those sitting behind.

Small touches throughout, including separate central armrests, glovebox design and the ergonomic positioning of the car’s key control systems, have been guided carefully by the input of the brand’s Female Advisory Board, dealership feedback and a variety of private focus groups held worldwide.

Not limited to this area, the guidance provided has been key to the success of DBX’s overall design.

The seats are trimmed in sumptuous, full grain leather, sourced from long term partner Bridge of Weir.

An industry first, both the headlining and electric roof blind are available in a luxurious Alcantara® finish, providing a harmonious design, light obscuration and solar attenuation without compromising headroom.

Throughout the cabin, DBX maintains an authenticity of materials, with judicious use of
metal, glass and wood throughout the cabin.

Another design highlight includes the elegantly crafted bridged centre console allowing for both flexible storage below and a beautiful, architectural centrepiece. This feature keeps valuables close to hand while not occupying the passenger seat and away from dirt on the car’s floor mats.

As part of ‘Q by Aston Martin’ – Aston Martin’s personalisation service – optional features of this centre console can be machined from a solid piece of wood, such as Walnut, for added tactility.

A contemporary range of exquisite wood, composite and metal veneers ensure that the cabin can be tailored to any taste. This includes a range of innovative materials and an industry first application of a fabric made from 80% wool.

A new flax composite – derived from the same plant as fine linen – also provides an alternative to carbon fibre and a distinctive design aesthetic.

Framed by these materials is an abundance of technology. A 10.25” TFT screen sits elegantly flush in the centre console, while a huge 12.3” TFT screen provides a wealth of information to the driver.

Apple CarPlay comes as standard, as does a 360-degree camera system and ambient lighting that offers 64 different colours in two zones.

DBX’s exterior works as hard as the interior at bringing the elegance of Aston Martin’s sports cars into the world of the SUV. From the signature ‘DB’ grille at the front, through the sculptured sides and design feature line, to the tailgate with a flip that draws inspiration from Vantage, this is an Aston Martin from first glance to detailed inspection.

Beautiful details like the hidden side glass seals on the frameless doors and glass B-pillar finishers add an elegant sleekness and confidence to the stance.

Cutaway sills also assist in narrowing the stepover required to enter the sumptuous cabin, while reducing the risk of ruining a fine dress or suit on arrival to a dinner engagement.

Aerodynamics were an important consideration within the design process and this included the novel experience for the team of running computational fluid dynamics (CFD) tests with a DBX towing a trailer with a DB6 on it.

At the car’s front, the daytime running lights (DRLs) have an integrated aerodynamic duct, which channels air through the front wheel arches and along the side, helping to reduce both drag and lift while also cooling the brakes.

Air flows cleanly over the roof, through the rear wing, over the rear window and on to the rear flip. This unique approach and design detail allows the rear screen to self-clear on the move.

Aerodynamic design has also played a key part in passenger comfort because as one of only a few companies using computational aeroacoustics technology, Aston Martin’s engineers have been able to keep cabin noise to a minimum at speed.

Aston Martin is incredibly proud that DBX, an SUV intended to expand the sales reach of the brand worldwide, will be built in Britain at the new manufacturing plant in St Athan, Wales.

With its all-wheel drive system, DBX is a car that will allow the company to increase its presence in markets where perhaps the weather or terrain is less than conducive to rear- wheel drive sports cars.

The clear emphasis on a spacious and luxurious cabin – whether seated in the front or back – will also allow Aston Martin to better reach customers who prefer to be driven rather than drive.

The Aston Martin DBX is available from the base price of RM818,000 (before duties, customization options, taxes and insurance) and is now available for viewing and booking.

AirAsia Japan: Announcement Of Cessation Of Operations

AirAsia Japan Co., Ltd. has decided to cease operations effective 5 October 2020.

Since its incorporation in July 2014, the Company has been operating domestic and international flights from its base in Chubu Centrair International Airport.

The COVID-19 pandemic has left a significant and sustained adverse economic impact on businesses and economies around the world and the Company has not been spared.

Travel restrictions and the uncertainties it created have severely curtailed demand for business and leisure travel resulting in flight reductions, cancellations and grounding of aircraft. These factors have weighed heavily on the Company’s ability to continue operations.

Representative Director and COO of AirAsia Japan, Jun Aida said, “Despite our unrelenting efforts to sustain operations through successive and wide-ranging cost reduction initiatives, we have concluded that it would be an extremely challenging feat for us to continue operating without any visibility and certainty of a post-pandemic recovery path.

“I would like to express our deepest gratitude and appreciation to our loyal guests and other stakeholders who have supported us all along. This painful decision to cease operations was decided neither in haste nor taken lightly. It was agreed upon after conducting a thorough business review.

“Further steps to this decision will be made in accordance with the applicable laws and regulations including the Japan Civil Aeronautics Act.

“We have cancelled all flights. All affected guests will be contacted via email with further information within the next 7 days. Guests may also view our dedicated support pages below.”
