Global apparel retailer UNIQLO today announced a donation of RM300,000 worth of essentials to those who need them most, including 500,000 meals for the most vulnerable; AIRism masks for frontliners at 10 vaccination centers; and oxygen concentrators for four hospitals in Penang, Kelantan and Johor.
Since the onset of COVID-19 last year, UNIQLO Malaysia has supported local healthcare frontliners, schools and marginalized communities with aid and relief.
The food donation was realized in partnership with The Lost Food Project (TLFP), a
foodbank non-governmental organization that rescues food surplus from manufacturers, wholesalers and retailers and re-distributes them to where they are
needed most, such as orphanages, homes for disabled children and the elderly,
drug rehabilitation centers, refugee centers and schools, and low-cost housing
where the majority of Malaysia’s B40 group resides.

UNIQLO Malaysia supported TLFP’s efforts with a RM100,000 donation to contribute 500,000 meals for their most vulnerable homes and charities; as well as AIRism shirts for volunteers to keep them cool while they distribute these much-needed meals.
Commenting on the partnership, CEO of UNIQLO Malaysia and Singapore Yuki Yamada said, “We are pleased to support TLFP, a like-minded organization that provides essentials for the betterment of society in a sustainable manner.
The solution of feeding people through rescued food that usually ends up in landfills, not only provides food for the vulnerable, but also reduces our carbon footprint. In
addition to providing 500,000 meals, the donation amounts to a reduction of
437,500kg of carbon emission.

This is very much in line with UNIQLO’s sustainability efforts in reducing our environmental impact on our planet and helping to improve lives in our society.”
The company also donated AIRism masks to healthcare frontliners and volunteers
at vaccination centers located in states where percentages of registered adults waiting to be vaccinated are higher. Similarly, oxygen concentrators were donated to hospitals located in states where daily new COVID-19 cases are relatively higher, to strengthen the healthcare infrastructure there.
“Our donations are made with the consideration of providing essentials where it’s needed most, which aligns with UNIQLO’s LifeWear philosophy of providing clothing
essentials to make people’s lives better. We hope our humble contribution will help
support Malaysia as she continues to fight the pandemic,” said Yamada.
