Maybank Islamic aims to issue over 100,000 new credit cards in 2023 that are eco-friendly and feature sustainable elements, in line with the Group’s ambition to embed sustainability across all of its operations to drive change for a better world.

The new credit card will be available for its Amex, Mastercard and Visa Ikhwan lines and in a three-month campaign commencing 12.12.2022 in conjunction with the unveiling of these new cards, the Bank will reward cardholders with 5x TreatsPoints for every RM1 spent with specified eco-friendly merchants and sustainable businesses.

More than 30 such merchants and businesses have been selected to be a part of the campaign based on their commitment to environmentally-friendly and sustainable practices.

The list of merchants, which currently covers various categories including grocery shopping, retail, clothing, transportation, hotels and solar-power providers, is expected to expand in the near future.

Chief Executive Officer of Maybank Islamic, Dato’ Mohamed Rafique Merican said that the introduction of these cards are timely and bodes well given the rise in customer’s awareness for a more eco-friendly, green and sustainable solution.

“In line with our newly introduced M25+ strategy, sustainability is a key strategic priority for us and we wish to support customers who are also on their own sustainability journey. We understand and recognise the journey ahead, hence, we are committed to looking for new ways and solutions to reduce our collective carbon footprint through the introduction of this new bio-sourced credit card,” Dato’ Rafique added.

The new credit card comprises of 84% bio-sourced and renewable materials, which are plant based and bio-degradable in nature. The use of PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride), petroleum-based plastic and fossil-based plastic will be reduced by 82%.

With the current shift towards digitalisation, Maybank Islamic has added a new value proposition for its Ikhwan American Express Platinum Credit Card-I cardholders’ where cardholders can enjoy 8% cashback for online spend, up to RM50 per month for 10 months and RM100 per month in the months of Ramadhan and Syawal.

Cardholders will also enjoy up to 3X TreatsPoints on retail spend and lifetime membership
fee waiver.

Head of Community Financial Services of Malaysia, Datuk Hamirullah Boorhan said that in line with Maybank’s mission of Humanising Financial Services, the Bank constantly looks at new opportunities in emerging lifestyle trends to improve customer offerings and fit their current needs and lifestyle.

In conjunction with the introduction of Maybank’s new eco-friendly credit cards, a “Spend and Win” campaign has been launched where card members stand a chance to win the grand prize of a Honda City Hatchback 1.5L RS (hybrid) and other attractive prizes such as iPhone 14, shopping vouchers and cash back.

The campaign will run for three months from 12 December 2022 until 12 March 2023 and is expected to attract 8,000 new credit card customers. The first 900 new card members will be awarded with a RM150 shopping voucher with a minimum spend of RM300 within 45 days of card activation.
