Perodua dan Universiti Teknologi Malaysia telah menandatangani memorandum persefahaman (MoU) untuk membangunkan generasi baharu kenderaan elektrik (xEV) di Malaysia.
Memorandum ini merangkumi pakej komprehensif yang meliputi aspek pendidikan dan latihan kepada bakal jurutera baharu dalam membangunkan teknologi berkaitan xEV.
“Kami berharap untuk meneroka masa depan di mana Malaysia mampu membina teknologi xEV sendiri dan manfaatnya dapat dinikmati oleh generasi akan datang,”
Presiden dan Ketua Pegawai Eksekutif, Dato’ Sri Zainal Abidin Ahmad berkata, melalui perjanjian ini, Perodua telah melangkah lebih jauh daripada tugas asalnya – daripada menjadi pemangkin pemindahan teknologi kepada sebuah entiti yang memacu pembangunan teknologi.
Perodua, yang ditubuhkan pada 1993, diwujudkan bagi menyediakan kenderaan yang
berkualiti tingggi dan mampu milik buat rakyat Malaysia, dalam masa yang sama bertindak sebagai syarikat yang dapat memindahkan teknologi ke Malaysia.
Pemindahan teknologi ini bertujuan untuk membangunkan ekosistem automotif negara dan meningkatkan kemahiran dan pengetahuan teknologi rakyat Malaysia.

Selain itu, melalui perjanjian ini, satu makmal satelit akan ditubuhkan di kampus utama UTM di Skudai, Johor. Perodua dan UTM akan bertukar pengetahuan mengenai perkembangan semasa pelbagai teknologi automotif yang memfokuskan kepada xEV.
Kedua-dua pihak juga akan bersama-sama memberi pendedahan kepada ahli-ahli akademik dan jurutera dalam pembangunan teknologi xEV. Perodua dan UTM akan bekerjasama secara aktif dalam bidang akademik, penyelidikan dan pembangunan (R&D), serta program pembangunan bakat dan latihan untuk kakitangan masing-masing.
Perjanjian ini juga turut membuka peluang kepada kedua-dua pihak untuk meneroka bidang kerjasama lain yang saling memberi manfaat.
