In conjunction with the World Post Day celebration, Pos Malaysia Berhad (Pos Malaysia) will be issuing the second instalment of “Pos Silang” stamp series on Wednesday, 9 October 2019.
POS Silang or popularly known as Postcrossing, refers to an activity of sending and receiving postcards from random registered post-crosses across the globe.
Pos Malaysia’s Group Chief Executive Officer, Syed Md Najib Syed Md Noor said, “As the world progresses to be more digitalised with advanced technology, letter writing and postcards have been replaced by other means of digital and electronic communications.
With this in mind, Pos Malaysia released the Pos Silang stamp series featuring post boxes in places of interest in Malaysia to commemorate this year’s World Post Day in reminisce of the days when receiving handwritten postcards in our (real) mailbox was in trend.
“For this year’s Pos Silang initiative, the stamp folder is designed in a special shape of Pos Malaysia’s post box while the stamps feature illustrations of post boxes at notable places of interest in Malaysia namely, Tanjung Piai in Johor – the southernmost tip of Mainland Asia and Gunung Kinabalu in Sabah which is located 3,289 above sea level and officially recognised as the highest post box in Malaysia by Malaysia Book of Records,“ he added.
For avid postcards collector and those who are interested to participate in the post
crossing activity, they need to register at the postcrossing website at https://www.postcrossing.com/signup in order receive the country code and sender’s ID.
The country code is to be written on the back of the postcard in order for the
recipient to re-register the postcard into the web pages used.
The cancellation mark will bear the ‘Pos Silang 2 – World Post Day’ to denote the second series of this issuance. This stamp issue comes in two postage stamps with 50sen and 80sen denominations.
