HONOR’s upcoming flagship smartphone, the Magic9 Pro Max, made an unexpected appearance at the dedicated photography area at Sepang International Circuit, taking its place alongside professional camera gear to capture the intensity of high-speed racing action.

The appearance comes just days after the smartphone’s official launch in China on 28 September, marking one of the first public showcases of the HONOR Magic9 Pro Max’s imaging capabilities in Malaysia.

Motorsport photography demands precision, speed and the ability to capture fleeting moments with clarity. With racing cars regularly exceeding 300 km/h, photographers use large telephoto lenses and professional cameras to follow the action and produce sharp, detailed images.

So, when the HONOR Magic9 Pro Max appeared alongside rows of professional photography equipment at the circuit, it naturally caught the attention of photographers on site.

“When I saw someone using a smartphone to capture the race, I assumed he was just shooting for fun. But after seeing the results, I was genuinely surprised by how sharp and detailed the images were,” said a photographer who was at the circuit.

Biggest Upgrade in celebration of Magic 10th anniversary

The HONOR Magic9 Pro Max marks the 10th anniversary of HONOR’s Magic series and has been described by the company as the “biggest upgrade” in the line’s history.

The device features a dual 200MP ARRI cinematic imaging system, with an emphasis on telephoto performance and high-speed capture, capabilities that are central to HONOR’s positioning of the device against competing flagships.

Early demand for the HONOR Magic series in China has been strong, securing the top spot among new Android flagship devices on its first day of sales. Sales surged 194% within just 30 minutes of launch, outperforming the previous generation.

Malaysian availability yet to be announced

HONOR has yet to announce the availability of the Magic9 Pro Max in Malaysia as interest in the flagship is already building among Malaysians following its launch in China.

The trackside demonstration also reflects a broader shift in the smartphone market, where competition among flagship devices has increasingly moved beyond everyday photography toward specialist capabilities such as long-range zoom and high-speed image capture.
