Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, Dato Haji Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, today announced the 14-day countdown to the ASEAN International Film Festival & Awards and finally the announcement of the Star Celebrity for AIFFA 2023.

“It is the K-Pop Icon and Film Star Rain of South Korea,” Karim announced to the delight of many guests who attended the opening movie premiere for AIFFA, Sumpahan Jerunei.

After careful consideration, the AIFFA Management’s decision to invite Rain as the Special AIFFA 2023 guest was based on his phenomenal talent as portrayed through the Creative Industry and Performing Arts which has also helped attract millions of visitors to South Korea and create an interest globally for all things Korean.

His exceptional talents span the music and film industry as he is a singer-songwriter, actor and music producer. He has worked in films in South Korea and also for Hollywood. He is also known for his philanthropy work and has performed and put together many events and concerts for various charitable causes.

Fans of Rain are invited to Meet and Greet him at 3:30pm at the Old Courthouse Gardens on the 4th of August. Those who would like to see more of Rain can also attend the AIFFA 2023 Gala Night.

In his speech, the Minister also invited local residents to attend the 3-day festival to enjoy the various events and film screenings which are free at the Old Courthouse.

Earlier, in her speech, the Festival Director Livan Tajang said that many ASEAN movie stars and film directors will also be attending as they are vying for the AIFFA awards.

She invited those who are interested in films to attend the festival and as most of the activities are open to public and are free of charge. She said that the shortlisted films are now being judged by the AIFFA jury from the various countries who would then be in Kuching to select the winners from among the nominees.

The film Sumpahan Jerunei is the first for AIFFA as a Sarawak content film to be screened as the opening film and will be played again for the ASEAN delegates on the Opening Night.

The production house is Produksi Seni Duapuluh Dua Puluh Sdn. Bhd, headed by Dato Nancie Foo and Datin Dr. Wendy Wong and some of the cast and crew were also present at this premiere night.

They include Bront Palarae, Uqasha Senrose, Syafie Nawip, Ruminah Sidek, Yuyun Hikmah, Ali Mohamad, Tommy Black, and Uncle Sil. The film will begin screening on 27th July at GSC cinemas around Malaysia.
