MMC Corporation Berhad (MMC) and DRB-Hicom Berhad (DRB-Hicom) strengthened their commitment to conduct business ethically and in full compliance with all applicable laws and regulations at a pledging and signing ceremony held at Hilton Petaling Jaya.
During the event, Latheefa Koya, Chief Commissioner of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) witnessed Dato’ Sri Che Khalib Mohamad Noh, Group Managing Director of MMC and Dato’ Sri Syed Faisal Albar, Group Managing Director of DRB-HICOM take pledges to ensure there were no corrupt practices at their respective organisations.
Also present were Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Shamsul Azhar Abbas, Group Chairman of MMC and Dato’ Mohammad Zainal Shaari, Chairman of DRB-HICOM, Datuk Hasni Harun, Chairman of Malakoff Corporation Berhad and Gas Malaysia Berhad, Datuk Yasmin Mahmood, Chairman of Pos Malaysia Berhad, Board of Directors, Chief Executive Officers and Senior Management teams from MMC and DRB-HICOM Groups as well as MACC’s senior officers.
The event signifies MMC and DRB-HICOM Groups’ continuous commitment in upholding high standards of governance to combat any form of bribery and corruption within the organisations.
The new provision under Section 17A of the MACC Act 2009 which is scheduled for enforcement effective 1 June 2020 will impose liability on commercial organisations and accord strict personal liability if a person associated with the organisation commits a corrupt act when acquiring or retaining a contract or interest for the benefit of the organisation.
“We are always committed to mitigate, deter and detect any form of bribery and corruption within the Group to ensure we conduct our job with high integrity and principle.
We will not compromise with any employees found to be corrupted. Those found to be involved in corrupt practices will be dealt with in accordance with the existing policies, procedures and laws,” said Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Shamsul Azhar Abbas, Group Chairman of MMC.
To equip the participants with better understanding on the new provision, Senior Assistant Commissioner Mohd Nur Lokman Samingan, Head of Private Sector Branch, Community Education Division, MACC delivered a briefing session entitled “Enhancing Corporate Governance by Understanding Legal Liabilities “Act or Resign”.
Both MMC and DRB-HICOM Groups have in place policies and procedures that support the effort namely Code of Ethics, Whistleblowing Policy, Employee Handbook, Raid Protocol and Anti-Bribery and Anti-Corruption Policy and Framework.
